Navigating Life’s Ups and Downs: What We Can Control vs. What We Can’t
Hello, lovelies!
Isn’t life just a rollercoaster sometimes? One minute you’re coasting along nicely, and the next, you’re hit with twists and turns you never saw coming. With the upcoming UK general election, I know many of us are feeling a mix of anticipation and a bit of anxiety. It’s perfectly natural to feel a bit overwhelmed when things don’t go as planned. The key is knowing what we can control and what we can’t—and being alright with that (I know this is sometimes easier said than done). The general election is a perfect example of how things within, and outside our control affect us. So lets look at it together.
What We Can Control
- Our Actions: Every choice we make, from casting our vote in the election to having a good chinwag about it, is in our hands.
- Our Attitude: How we view and react to political goings-on shapes our reality. A bit of positive thinking and gratitude can work wonders.
- Our Effort: We can’t control the election results, but we can control how informed and engaged we are. For some people knowledge is key, for others knowing when to switch off is vital.
- Self-Care: Taking care of ourselves with good food, a bit of exercise, a spot of meditation, and plenty of rest is entirely up to us.
What We Can’t Control
- Other People’s Actions: We can’t dictate how others vote or behave, but we can control our response.
- Circumstances: The political landscape and election outcomes are out of our hands. What we can manage is how we react and adapt.
- The Past: It’s done and dusted. Learning from it and moving forward is the best we can do, whatever your views.
- The Future: As unpredictable as it is, focusing on the present moment brings peace and reduces anxiety.
Finding Balance
- Reflect and Accept: Take a moment to acknowledge what you can control and let go of what you can’t.
- Focus on Your Sphere of Influence: Put your energy into areas where you can make a difference.
- Practice Mindfulness: A bit of meditation can help keep you grounded.
- Let Go: Trust that you have the resilience to handle whatever comes your way.
A Personal Note
I’ve been on this journey too, learning to embrace the balance of control and letting go. It’s brought me so much growth and peace in so many areas of my life. Remember, you’re not alone. We’re all figuring it out together, especially in politically charged times like these. So, take a deep breath, focus on what you can control, and let go of what you can’t.
Sending warmest wishes for the week ahead,
Sarah
